Cucusoft iPod Video Converter + DVD to iPod Suite

This package is one of the best software conversion package we tested. It works quickly. Some programs require two steps, one to convert video to hard disk, the second to convert from hard disk to MP4 and MP3 formats. But this package does it in one step, so the program works very fast. It also produces high quality video and sound, it's quick, it's easy and it's reliable.

If you are a beginner, you'll love how simple it is to use this program: you put a DVD into your disk drive, start the program, click on DVD to iPod, type in a title, and click on Convert. The program takes over and does the rest. You can convert movies to your iPod within minutes after you download and install the package.

If you are a more advanced user, you can customize rather than go with the defaults, and use some of the options; for example you can select audio track (e.g. English, or French), you can select subtitles (e.g. French, or Spanish), you can use drag and drop, it all works flawlessly.

Cucusoft is always improving its various packages including this one, and you can get updates free of charge for life.

The support is very good, but occasionally they're a bit overwhelmed (they are one of the biggest sellers on the market), and a reply may take a bit longer than one would have hoped. However, there's a good step-by-step help guide. It's really unlikely that you ever need help with this package, but we tried and we found them pleasant and helpful.

This package is well worth the money. You get two software packages that  separately are priced at $29.95 each, a $59.90 value, for only $39.95. There are cheaper packages out there, but you really get a lot more value for very little more money.

Cucusoft's DVD converter suite is easy to operate if you just go with the default settings, yet for the more experienced, it offers a number of options. There are three main interfaces, the initial opening screen, a screen to deal with DVD conversion, and a screen to deal with Video conversion. There are other screen and pop-ups not shown here.

When you first open the package by clicking on the desktop icon (placed there at download), the opening screen shown in Figure 1 below appears.

To Convert DVDs

Run your cursor over the top button to get the four choices listed in the picture above, the top one of which is DVD to iPod. There are three others listed there, .IFO to iPod, .VOB to iPod, and DVD to VCD/SVCD.

As soon as you click on the top button, the DVD to iPod screen shown in Figure 2 below appears. (Click on the thumbnail picture to enlarge it, then click on  your browser's Back button to return to this page).
Here you specify your input files and output files, specify subtitle, audio track and crop options (normally you would go with the default values), and you can control other settings by clicking the 'Settings' tab.

Now you just click on the 'Convert' button, sit back and watch the drama unfold on the screen in the upper right as the movie is being converted to iPod format.

To Convert Movies and Videos

Run your cursor over the middle button of the opening screen and up pops a different list, as shown in Figure 3.

Here you have the option the convert AVI, WMV, RM, MOV, mpeg and other to iPod.

As soon as you click on this middle button, up pops the screen shown in Figure 4 below. You will find the operations here similar to those described above. They are self-explanatory and very easy. Set things up, click on 'Convert' and the program takes over.

To Exit

To exit, press the bottom button on the blue opening screen
